What does it mean to go anywhere these days? It could mean that you put twelve suitcases together and catch a business class seat to Toyko. It could mean you shove things into a bookbag, say screw it and run for the mail courier line at the airport.

Or, like me, you’re taking a monumental leap of faith and moving abroad. Also like me, it might not be for good.

In July, my fiancé and I will be moving to Melbourne, Australia. We will be there six months while he studies abroad at the University of Melbourne. Since none of you know this, I studied there in 2008 and, go figure, I loved it so much that I’ve talked about it pretty much nonstop since I returned.

I didn’t pressure him to go, if you’re wondering. As luck – or maybe fate, ooh la la – would have it, Melbourne has a wonderful music program. And Patrick is very excited about going.

Not surprisingly, a lot of things are required before one can live abroad, namely living, food, job and travel arrangements have to be made. Additionally, before I go I have to make a nice sum of money to afford half of the first month’s rent and deposit and to last until I can start working.

As I make these arrangements, I will be writing about them here. And when I finally arrive in belovéd Melbun, I will continue to post stories, pictures and videos about my time there.

And since I will also be working on my still unfinished novela and screenplay while there, this blog should be a healthy reminder every day to stay active with my writing. That’s especially hard for a procrastinator like me.
